The Beach Plum Company in Newcastle is proud to be one of many local businesses and individual supporters in the community sponsoring the 2019 Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta™.
Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta™ is a yearly fall festival that promotes horticultural education and agricultural science. Each spring an army of volunteer farmers and growers of all ages is equipped with the seedlings and the scientific knowledge needed to nurture the growth of a GIANT Atlantic Giant Pumpkin. The end of the growing season marks the beginning of Pumpkinfest which starts in early October with a weigh-off that is sanctioned but the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth. Over a period of ten days the resulting pumpkins are showcased in a number of creative ways highlighting the skills, talent, creative spirit and ability of the people from this community and surrounding communities as well as visitors from away. From engineering and boatbuilding (derby, regatta, catapult, slingshot and drop) to sculpting and artistry (downtown displays) the fairytale magic of giant pumpkins brings out the joyful childlike spirit in all of us.
The festival is one hundred percent volunteer run and individual contributions of time, skill and energy are what make this festival such a wonderful experience. From the administrators and organizers, to the farmers, growers, bakers (dessert contest!) artists and makers - this event is a testament to the generous spirit, strength and creative talent that can be found in so many of the special people who love this special place.
Official Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta™ merchandise (t-shirts, hoodies, hats) will be available in our shop again this year and on the website starting in September. The Beach Plum Company is located at 77 Main Street in downtown Newcastle, just across the bridge from downtown Damariscotta.
Although the festival is officially named The Damariscotta Pumpkinfest and Regatta™, downtown Newcastle also plays a lead role in the festivities (we're the Twin Villages!). The parade (and pumpkin art trail!) travels along Main Street through both Newcastle and Damariscotta passing directly in front of our shop!
